Terms & Conditions
62°N Car Rental’s legal company name is F.F. Bilaleiga Sp/f, registration number 2866. The company address is Á Hálsi 10, 380 Sørvágur, Faroe Islands.
Age requirements, driver’s license and additional drivers:
1) The renter/driver must present a valid driver’s license in Latin script upon vehicle collection.
2) The renter/driver must be at least 21 years old.
3) The vehicle may only be driven by the renter and additional drivers noted in the rental agreement. Otherwise, all protection will be lost. Payment:
4) A valid credit card is required upon vehicle collection. The following payment cards are accepted: Visa, Visa Debit, Visa Electron, Mastercard, Debit Mastercard, Mastercard Maestro, Diners Club, VPAY, JCB.
A credit card authorization will be taken at the start of all rentals for security reasons, even when a voucher covers the cost of the rental. This credit card authorization is used to pay additional surcharges such as: toll roads, damages, late returns, parking fines, additional rental days, fines resulting from violating traffic laws, missing fuel, or any cost related to the use of the rented vehicle.
Obligations of the renter:
5) The renter agrees with his signature to the provisions of the rental agreement and has received a copy of it either physically or digitally.
6) The renter will return the vehicle:
a) With all attachments, including tyres, tools, documents, maps, and other items that were in or on the vehicle at the start of rental, in the same condition as upon reception, except for normal wear and tear. If something is missing the renter agrees that the cost of individual items that are absent when the vehicle is returned will be charged to his or her credit card. The same applies if extra parts that came with the vehicle are missing upon the vehicle’s return or if returned in an unsatisfactory condition, i.e., these items will be charged to the renter’s credit card.
b) With an interior free from excessive dirt, mud, food spills, trash, or similar debris. Normal signs of vehicle use are expected.
c) On the date and time specified on the rental agreement, unless an extension is confirmed by both parties.
7) If the renter violates the terms of this contract or does not return the vehicle at the time agreed according to the rental agreement or does not declare his intention to extend the rental, 62°N Car Rental or the police are authorized to repossess the vehicle without further notice and at the renter’s cost. If the renter returns the vehicle 1 hour or later after the agreed return time, 62°N Car Rental is authorized to claim an extra rental day on the expense of the renter. For every day that begins thereafter, 62°N Car Rental may collect all further charges at the renter’s expense.
8) Driving rental cars on unauthorized roads or tracks is forbidden, and driving off-road is always prohibited.
9) It is the renter’s responsibility to obtain information on road conditions while travelling as well as weather forecasts and general warnings.
10) The vehicle shall be handled and driven carefully. Only those named as drivers on the rental agreement are authorized to drive the vehicle, otherwise no insurance applies. If the renter returns the vehicle to a different location than the one stated in this rental agreement, 62°N Car Rental is allowed to charge the renter for the cost caused from fetching the vehicle.
11) The renter must return the vehicle with a full fuel tank or at the same fuel level as at the start of the rental. If the vehicle is returned with missing fuel, 62°N Car Rental will charge a refueling fee of DKK 16 per liter, plus a service fee of DKK 300. If the vehicle is filled with the wrong type of fuel, a minimum fee of DKK 10.000 will apply. The renter is also fully responsible for all repair or replacement costs resulting from damages caused by incorrect fueling.
12) Damages caused by filling or topping up AdBlue into the fuel tank will not be covered by 62°N Car Rental, and the renter/driver is liable for the full cost of damages caused.
13) If a parking fine is issued during the rental period, the renter is required to pay the fine as instructed on the notice or at a local police station. If the fine is not paid by the renter, 62°N Car Rental will deduct the amount from the renter’s deposit authorization and apply an additional administration fee of DKK 250.
14) Smoking is prohibited in all rental vehicles. The renter is responsible for any costs associated with smoke damage, including odor removal.
15) The renter is responsible for any damages to the vehicle or injuries to passengers for which no compensation will be paid by the insurance company due to the following:
a) Off-road driving, such as on unpaved paths, beaches, areas only accessible at low tide, or other trackless terrains.
b) Violation of Faroese law, the rental agreement, or driving under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants.
16) In the event of a collision or accident, the renter must immediately report the incident to 62°N Car Rental and the Faroese police. The renter is solely responsible for ensuring that a formal statement is provided to both 62°N Car Rental and the Faroese police in all such cases.
17) The number of kilometers (km) that the vehicle is driven during the rental period is determined by reading a normal odometer supplied with the vehicle by the manufacturer. The renter shall notify 62°N Car Rental if the odometer is out of order or stops functioning during the rental.
18) The renter agrees to pay 62°N Car Rental, upon request:
a) A deposit covering the estimated rental cost of the vehicle, along with sufficient funds to account for any potential surcharges.
b) All expenses incurred by 62°N Car Rental if the vehicle must be brought back to its premises, in the event that it has been left without supervision, without regard to condition of the vehicle, the roads or the weather. In the same manner the renter is responsible for all costs due to transport of the vehicle in case of damage caused by the renter.
19) The renter is not authorized to repairs or make changes to the vehicle or its accessories, or to put the vehicle up as any kind of security.
20) The renter is liable for toll roads such as subsea tunnels, as well as fines resulting from violating traffic laws. The same applies regarding payment of taxes to local authorities resulting from the use of the rented vehicle.
21) 62°N Car Rental reserves the right to collect charges from the renter´s credit card in cases where toll roads and traffic violations are registered to the vehicle in the rental period.
22) The renter may not use the vehicle to transport passengers for payment, lend it to others, or sublease it.
23) If the renter fails to comply with notifications from 62°N Car Rental to bring the vehicle in for an oil change, service inspection, or mandatory vehicle inspection, 62°N Car Rental reserves the right to impose a negligence fee.
24) If the renter returns the vehicle earlier than the agreed rental period, the renter remains responsible for the condition of the vehicle until it has been inspected and accepted by 62°N Car Rental. Any damages identified after the vehicle’s return but before the scheduled end of the rental period, and prior to inspection by the company, will be the renter’s liability.
25) If the rental ends before the agreed time as per the agreement 62°N Car Rental is allowed to collect the full balance of the rental agreement.
26) The renter is responsible for costs incurred by 62°N Car Rental, including attorney fees incurred in collecting payment due from the renter.
27) The renter is responsible for any fines, penalties, forfeitures, legal costs, or other expenses incurred during the rental period, except when caused by the fault of 62°N Car Rental. This does not exempt the renter or any other individual from being directly accountable to public authorities for their own unlawful actions.
Obligations of 62°N Car Rental:
28) 62°N Car Rental agrees to provide the vehicle according to the signed rental agreement, and to ensure it meets the specified requirements.
29) If the vehicle malfunctions, 62°N Car Rental shall supply the renter with a substitute vehicle as soon as possible.
Insurance:
30) The lease sum/rental fee includes mandatory vehicle insurance, including liability insurance and accident insurance for the driver and passengers.
31) Third-party liability insurance will consist of the amount stipulated by Faroese law at any given time.
32) The renter can purchase separate accident insurance. This policy will specify the amount deductible in each instance of loss.
33) Each deductible (own risk) applies to a single incident of damage. If multiple damages are clearly caused by separate events, the renter will be responsible for the deductible for each individual incident.
34) Insurance packages must be selected prior to rental start and stated on a signed rental agreement.
35) The individual insurances are bundled into packages which can be purchased at the time of booking or at rental counter. An insurance cannot be purchased individually. The individual insurances and their coverages are listed below:
a) Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) also covers Third Party Loss. Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) also covers injuries suffered by you or your passengers. Theft Waiver (TW) covers against theft of the vehicle. Theft of personal belongings is not covered. Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW) lowers the excess amount of the CDW. Gravel Protection (GRP) covers damage to the vehicle’s body caused by gravel or stones propelled by other vehicles. Tyre Protection (TP) covers damage to rims, wheel covers and adverse wear to tyres. Glass Protection (GP) covers damage, cracks and stone chips in the windscreen, windows & mirrors. Zero Excess Cover (ZERO) reduces the excess amount to zero.
b) The individual insurances are bundled into 4 protection packages in the following manner:
Basic Protection Package (BAS) with an excess amount DKK 10.000 and includes CDW, PAI, TW.
Medium Protection Package (MED) with an excess amount DKK 4.000 and includes CDW, PAI, TW, SCDW.
Plus Protection Package (PLUS) with an excess amount DKK 1.000 and includes CDW, PAI, TW, SCDW, GRP.
Premium Protection Package (PREM) with an excess amount DKK 0 and includes CDW, PAI, TW, SCDW, GRP, TP, GP, ZERO.
36) The following is excluded from all insurance coverage:
a) Intentional damage or damage due to gross negligence on the part of the driver.
b) Damage resulting from the driver being under the influence of alcohol, stimulants, or sedatives, or in any other way incapable of driving the vehicle in a safe manner.
c) Damage due to race or test driving.
d) Damage due to war, revolution, civil unrest, or riots.
e) Damage done by pets.
f) Holes burned into seats, carpets, or mats.
g) Damage affecting only wheels, tyres (unless PREM protection is purchased), suspension, batteries, glass (other than windows), radios and information systems, or loss by theft of parts of the vehicle and damage resulting from this.
h) Damage caused by driving on rough roads to the vehicles transmission, drive, battery and other parts that are in or attached to the chassis; damage to the chassis resulting from scraping the bottom on rough roads as a result of ridges being left by the road graders; stones lodged in the road surface or on the shoulder of the road. The same applies to damage occurring when stones are thrown up, striking the underside of the vehicle while driving.
i) Damages resulting from driving in places where vehicle traffic is banned, such as paths, tracks, banks of snow, ice, unbridged rivers or streams, beaches, places only accessible at low tide, or other trackless areas.
j) Damages caused by sand, gravel, ash, pumice, or other kinds of earth material being blown onto the vehicle.
k) If the vehicle is transported by sea or via ferry, no compensation will be paid for damage caused by sea spray/seawater.
l) Financial losses incurred by 62°N Car Rental as a result of the vehicle being stolen.
m) Water damage to the vehicle.
General terms:
37) Details of applicable fees, charges, surcharges and additional services can be found on our official website. 62°N Car Rental reserves the right to update these prices periodically without prior notice. The renter is responsible for reviewing the most current pricing information prior to entering into the rental agreement.
38) Toll roads such as subsea tunnels will be charged to the renter’s credit card at the end of the rental period.
39) Insurance: Third party liability insurance shall be equivalent to the amount stipulated by Faroese law. The renter is totally responsible for all damage to the car. By purchasing additional insurance, the renter can reduce or eliminate their financial responsibility for driver liability.
40) 62°N Car Rental is not liable for lost or damaged property left in or transported with the vehicle.
41) Cancellations can be made free of charge up to 72 hours prior to rental start, except for minibus cancellations, which must be placed 8 weeks prior to rental start. The renter will be responsible for any additional fees incurred in association with refunds such as bank and accounting fees.
42) The renter confirms with his or her signature to this rental agreement that he or she received the vehicle and attachments in sound condition.
43) Signing this rental agreement is equal to the renter´s signature for a credit card transaction due to payments of charges which 62°N Car Rental charges to renter’s credit card and is rightfully claimed by 62°N Car Rental according to provisions of this rental agreement.
44) 62°N Car Rental reserves the right to adjust prices without notice due to changes in excise duties, taxes, or other charges by Faroese authorities.
45) Additions and amendments to the conditions and provisions of this rental agreement shall be made in writing.
46) Faroese law applies to agreements made based on terms stated above. This includes any claims for compensation that might be made. This applies both to the basis for and the calculation of compensation. The same applies to claims for damage based on liability outside this agreement. If legal disputes arise concerning the rental agreement, they will be heard before the 62°N Car Rental´s legal venue.
