Bicycling in the Faroe Islands
Self guided biking tour; 8 days / 7 nights from € 1.340,- | DKK 9.950,-
More and more people are choosing to explore the Faroe Islands from the saddle of their bicycle. It´s no wonder why, considering the spectacular beauty one can see from the roads, mountains and valleys. The infrastructure in the Faroe Islands is excellent, with all islands accessible either by sub-sea tunnels, bridges or ferries. This, combined with low volume traffic on most roads, makes bicycling in the Faroe Islands a pleasurable experience. This week long cycling holiday will give you time and space to enjoy the wild rugged scenery that the islands have to offer.
Day 1: Check-in at Hotel Vágar only 500 m from theairport. Here the bicycles will be waiting for you and we suggest you start with a bike ride along the shores of the fjord towards the villages Bøur and Gásadalur – 20 km return
Day 2: Cycle towards the lake Sørvágsvatn, via Miðvágur and Sandavágur to the viewpoint “Trøllkonufingur” – 23 km return. At Sørvágsvatn we suggest you put down your bikes and go for a wal along the lake to the waterfall Bøsdalafossur.
Day 3: Move to Hotel Runavík on public bus. Cycle from Runavík via Toftir and turn into the narrow lane “Agnið” which winds its way across the countryside with lots of harpin bends. You will pass the beautiful mountain lake Toftavatn – 10 km return
Day 4: Take the public bus to Gamlarætt from where you take the ferry to Sandoy. Cycle from Skopun to Skálavík – 18 km
Day 5: Sandoy is an island with many beautiful small villages. If you prefer a relatively flat tour, you can cycle from Skálavík to the deserted village to the south, Skarvanes – 20 km return. Another option is to cycle to Dalur which is more difficult since the road is steep and narrow – 22 km return.
Day 6: Cycle to Skopun and take the ferry back – 18 km. Once on Streymoy again, cycle to the historical village Kirkjubøur and visit the 900- year old farmhouse and 700 year old church ruins, before going to Tórshavn – 20 km.
Day 7: For your last day on the islands we suggest either a cycling tour via the mountain road “Oyggjarvegurin” either to Kollafjørður – 40 km return, or to Sornfelli – 34 km return. Both routes have a great view of sound and fjord with steep ascents and descents.
Day 8: Day of departure.
