Bicycling in the Faroe Islands 2021
Self guided biking tour; 8 days / 7 nights from € 1.560,- | DKK 11.695,-
More and more people are choosing to explore the Faroe Islands from the saddle of their bicycle. It´s no wonder why, considering the spectacular beauty one can see from the roads, mountains and valleys. The infrastructure in the Faroe Islands is excellent, with all islands accessible either by sub-sea tunnels, bridges or ferries. This, combined with low volume traffic on most roads, makes bicycling in the Faroe Islands a pleasurable experience. This week long cycling holiday will give you time and space to enjoy the wild rugged scenery that the islands have to offer.
Day 1: Check-in at Hotel Vágar only 500 m from theairport. Here the bicycles will be waiting for you and we suggest you start with a bike ride along the shores of the fjord towards the villages Bøur and Gásadalur – 20 km return
Day 2: Cycle towards the lake Sørvágsvatn, via Miðvágur and Sandavágur to the viewpoint “Trøllkonufingur” – 23 km return. At Sørvágsvatn we suggest you put down your bikes and go for a wal along the lake to the waterfall Bøsdalafossur.
Day 3: Take the public bus to Kollafjørður. Cycle from Kollafjørður to Gjógv. Coastline ride to the bridge that cross over the Atlantic Ocean. Climb from Eiði to Eiðisskarð on you way to Gjógv - 47 km. Stay at Gjáarðgarður for one night.
Day 4: Cycle from Gjógv to Runavík. After you have climbed up from Gjógv you will bike down an impressive switchbacks (road with hairpin bends) to the small village Funningur. From Funningur there will be an easy and beautiful ride through the fjords Funningsfjørður and Skálafjørður to Runavík - 34 km. Overnight in Runavík.
Day 5: Cycle from Runavík via Toftir and turn into the narrow lane “Agnið” which winds its way across the countryside with lots of harpin bends. You will pass the beautiful mountain lake Toftavatn – 10 km return. In the afternoon take the bus to Tórshavn and check in to your hotel in the capital for 3 nights.
Day 6: Cycle out of Tórshavn, over a mountain pass Velbastaðhálur to the ferryport Gamlarætt and take the ferry to Sandoy. Sandoy is an island with many beautiful small villages and we suggest the relatively flat cycling tour to the village Skálavík - 70 km.
Day 7: For your last day on the islands we suggest either a cycling tour via the mountain road “Oyggjarvegurin” either to Kollafjørður – 40 km return, or to Sornfelli – 34 km return. Both routes have a great view of sound and fjord with steep ascents and descents.
Day 8: Day of departure and you will be taken to the airport by a taxi shuttle.
