Mykines - the bird island

Mykines is a must-see experience in the Faroe Islands. The nature of the island is exceptional and on the bird cliffs you can get close to the amazingly beautiful puffins and many other bird sorts on the island.

The islands Mykines is volcanic of origin and the westernmost of the 18 islands, which make up the Faroe Islands. It stretches 8 km from east to west, and is 2-3 km at its widest from north to south.

One of the Faroe Islands famous image artists, Sámal Joensen-Mikines was born on Mykines and although the population is around 15, the island receives many Faroese and foreign visits in the summer.

The transport connection to Mykines is by boat or helicopter. Moreover, is it possible to arrange day trips to the islands and stay there overnight. It is advisable to plan a trip to Mykines at the start of your stay, due to the weather conditions can prevent departure to the islands by 1-2 days.
