This day begins at the prearranged hotels in T\u00f3rshavn and from there to Eysturoy via the only sub-sea tunnel in the world that has a roundabout underneath the ocean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Eysturoy we exit the tunnel at Strendur and drive via the Western arm of Sk\u00e1lafj\u00f8r\u00f0ur, the longest fjord in the Faroe Islands. The first stop on the tour is at the village Elduv\u00edk, where you will see wonderful nature and hear interesting stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Elduv\u00edk the tour goes via Funningsfjord, past the village of Funningur, where the Sagas say early Norse settlers arrived and built their home around the year 800AD. Over Funningur on the way to Gj\u00f3gv you will stop at the viewpoint of Hv\u00edthamar and a short (15 minutes) hike to one of the most astounding views in the country. From there we will drive down to the village Gj\u00f3gv, where you will walk around the beautiful gorge, hear stories and see the church and memorial site there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Gj\u00f3gv we will drive below the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, Sl\u00e6ttaratindur (882 Metres\/2.894 feet) and stop at the viewpoint Risin & Kellingin (the Giant and the Witch). These 2 free-standing cliffs are said to be 2 giants that wanted to pull the Faroe Islands over to Iceland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next stop is at Caf\u00e9 Rose in Lj\u00f3s\u00e1ir, where you will have some good lunch and rest a bit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After lunch we will drive via a tunnel through the mountain at the opposite side of Sk\u00e1lafj\u00f8r\u00f0ur to the southernmost point of Eysturoy, where there is a wonderful view over to T\u00f3rshavn and the East side of N\u00f3lsoy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From there it is a short drive to a local sheep house where a local farmer will show us some Faroese sheep and talk about sheepfarming in the Faroe Islands. From there we will go to the wool shop Navia, where you will have an opportunity to purchase Faroese knitwear and yarn before heading back to T\u00f3rshavn through the tunnel again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
