It is your responsibility to be in the possession of valid travel documents, passport and visa. The Faroe Islands are tied to the Danish immigration policy; however there are some distinctions regarding working, residing, and visiting in the Faroe Islands compared to Denmark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nordic citizens<\/strong> are not obliged to hold a passport for entry to the Faroe Islands but will need a photo identity document. Nordic citizens may stay indefinitely in the Faroe Islands without any further permits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EU-country citizens or Schengen country citizens <\/strong>do not need a visa or other permit to visit the Faroe Islands. They may enter with a passport, or, for visits, national ID card (that includes a photo). This only applies to citizens. It is not sufficient to be a foreign resident<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Citizens of countries outside the EU and Schengen<\/strong> area must usually hold a passport valid for at least three months beyond the planned stay in the Faroe Islands. Depending on the nationality, a visa may also be required. The nationalities requiring a visa for entering the Faroe Islands is the same as for Denmark and can be seen h<\/a>ere<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please note that the Faroe Islands are NOT part of the Schengen Area<\/strong>. Consequently, people cannot enter the Faroe Islands based on their Schengen visas or Danish visa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When a visa is applied for, it must be specifically for the Faroe Islands. Visas are applied for at the Royal Danish Embassy or Consulate in your country of residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
