The Faroese weather is unpredictable. It is mostly cool-ish, and you can expect rapid changes. It is common to experience rain, snow, and sun within the same day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Average summer temperature: 12\u02daC. Average winter temperature: 3\u02daC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currency<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Danish Krone: DKK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the Faroese government prints its own bank notes, only Danish coins are used. Danish notes are equally acceptable as Faroese notes throughout the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Credit Cards<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most shops, restaurants, petrol stations, hotels, and taxis accept credit cards, mainly VISA, but other credit cards, such as MasterCard, Eurocard, Maestro, and JCB, are also accepted in large stores, shopping centers, and restaurants. Most places DO NOT accept American Express.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Language<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The national language of the Faroe Islands is Faroese. Danish is the official second language and is also spoken by Faroese people. English is also taught in school and is spoken by most people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Electricity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

20-230 volts AC (50 Hz) is the Faroese standard. The electric outlets may differ from other European countries. Just to be safe you can bring a two-pin continental adapter with you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Health and Safety<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Faroe Islands have nearly no crime, making it one of the safest places on earth to travel to. You can feel safe both day and night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enjoy local food and tap water without worry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HOWEVER, you need to consider the Faroese landscape with great care. The weather can change instantly, and hiking and sailing conditions can quickly become hazardous because of sudden fog or wind. Nevertheless, if common sense is used, it is unlikely that you will encounter any danger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Health Insurance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nordic and British citizens: Covered by their respective public health plans in the Faroe Islands. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Others: Need to acquire their own traveler\u2019s health insurance before visiting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tax Free Shopping<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

All non-residents of the Faroe Islands are exempt from the 25% value-added tax, VAT, (minus a service charge), on purchases over DKK 399, subject to the conditions of regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For immediate VAT refund, turn to the tax-free desk at the airport or on the Norr\u00f8na ferry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If travelling by cruise ship or sailboat, get tax-free refund at Visit Nor\u00f0oy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Time Zone<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Same as in London. GMT during winter months and GMT+1 during summer months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Phone and Internet Services<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stay connected effortlessly in the Faroe Islands with robust telecommunication networks. Dial +298 followed by a six-digit number for local calls. For international calls from the Faroe Islands, dial 00, national code and the number. Contact 118 for more info.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GSM services by F\u00f8roya Tele and Nema cover most islands, including roaming agreements. Get pre-paid phone cards from various spots. Broadband is widespread, with 3G and 4G networks across all islands. Now also 5G in many places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
