Renting a car is a very popular way to get around. It’s easy and gives you the possibility to decide your own route. Most of the islands are connected via bridges and subsea tunnels, making it effortless to drive around.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Most islands are connected by an excellent infrastructure of roads, bridges and subsea tunnels, making it effortless to get around.
All toll roads will be deducted from the deposit payment, which is paid upon arrival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To illustrate the flexibility of getting around by car, you can take in the majestic view of M\u00falafossur waterfall in G\u00e1sadalur, explore the breathtaking gorge in Gj\u00f3gv and hike out to the Kallurin lighthouse on Kalsoy all in one day \u2013 and even make it back in time for a lamb roast dinner in T\u00f3rshavn. (This depends on how many photos you plan on taking at each location \u2013 which is usually quite a lot!)

PLEASE READ BEFORE DRIVING IN THE FAROE ISLANDS<\/strong>

All major highways are paved, but some roads, especially to the smaller villages, are still gravel roads. Navigate these roads carefully, as loose gravel can make driving difficult. Many roads and tunnels leading to villages can be narrow, so please choose a safe speed according to the conditions. To keep traffic flowing, these roads have lay-bys (widened sections formed to one side to leave the road free for others to pass).
These lay-bys are NOT to be used for parking.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The general speed limit is 50 km\/h in urban areas and 80 km\/h on asphalt and gravel roads in rural areas. Road maps help, so bring one along before you start your journey, or use GPS navigation. Maps can be picked up for free at our rental desk upon arrival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Motorists are legally obliged to use headlights at all times, day and night. Passengers in an automobile’s front and back seats must wear safety belts. Talking on a mobile phone and driving under the influence of alcohol is strongly prohibited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TIP<\/em>
If a car behind you blinks its lights twice, it politely asks to pass you. Locals are used to driving on narrow, winding roads and prefer to drive faster, so they will appreciate your pulling over.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

You are legally obliged to have your headlights on whenever you are driving. This rule applies during the day as well as during the night.<\/p>\n

Many car models will automatically turn on the headlights as you start the engine. However, you should always check that your lights are on before driving off.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \n<\/div>\n\n\n
